When it comes to choosing the right gin to enjoy, the possibilities truly are endless. With new bars and new styles entirely dedicated to it opening up across Britain, gin is more popular than ever - especially because it is used in so many different cocktails. To help make your decision-making process that little bit easier, we have put together a list of some of the popular brands of gin you need to taste.
Pickering's Gin
If you are looking for a ridiculously smooth gin to try, this is the one for you. Being distilled in Edinburgh, Pickering's Gin features botanicals like Juniper, Lemon, Lime, Coriander, Anise, Angelica, Cardamom, Clove and Fennel. The most striking thing about the flavour of this spirit is the strong juniper, with hints of violet, lemon, black peppercorn and fennel. It is known as an exquisite classic style gin, tasting exceptional on its own - as well as mixed with tonic.
Plymouth Gin
This variant of gin is a beautifully balanced spirit, which has both earthy and citrus elements alongside a subtle flavour of juniper - which is slightly softer than expected in traditional dry gins. There are few gins as versatile and as well made as Plymouth Gin, especially because it was much loved by Winston Churchill among many others. It has a subtle, full-bodied flavour with no bitter botanicals, including juniper, coriander, sweet orange, cardamom, angelica and orris root that are redistilled with pure grain spirit.
Verdant Gin
Being the first gin to be distilled in the city of Dundee, Scotland, this spirit is often served classically with tonic, ice and a slice of lime. It is pungently citrusy, with the bitter orange and lemon peel shining through - with the actual flavours being chosen from countries that were once frequented by traders from the city. Verdant gin does not only work great in a traditional G&T, but also great in a cocktail - as it has plenty of character. If you want something light, fresh and relaxing, Verdant is a perfect choice.
Sipsmith London Dry Gin
This London dry gin is flavoured with juniper, orris root, cassia bark, and ground almond, among other botanicals - the perfect modern take on the classic taste. It's a fine choice for a G&T or a martini as it is very well balanced, carrying a medium-to-heavy juniper load. It is an incredibly clean, crisp drink with pine freshness that you are guaranteed to enjoy.
