The Vergnano family distills the Malfy range in Moncalieri, Italy. It is produced by using a variety of Italian ingredients with the assistance of an unusual stainless steel vacuum still. Distilling started in 1906 but it is claimed that the monks on the Salerno coast in the eleventh century added juniper and a few other botanicals and invented gin in Italy.
It is a strong and healthy drink and it screams of la doice vita, good for ones idling. It is worthy to raise a glass for the natives on board of a Riva Rivamare, passing the Villa Oleandra in Laglio on Lake Como. It is rather heavy on the lemons and pairs well with some seafood.
The gin contains of just six botanicals and a wheat-based alcohol. It is not overly complicated and has been steeped in a blend of Sfusato Amalfi coastal lemons and Sicilian lemon peel. It is unique as the freshness and vitality is complemented by a low-temperature distillation. It might not be the favourite of most juniper loyalists, but it is a refreshing welcome to the gin drinking enthusiasts.
