The Ultimate Gin Library- Lakes Gin
Distillery: The Lakes Distillery, Cumbria
The Oslo bottle comes in a handsome squat bottle and is often seen in the craft distilling scene. It is simply made, easy to use and comes with a dignified appearance.
Lakes is a fairly-new distillery and it opened its operations in November 2014. A few amiable nineteenth-century farm buildings surround the distillery and fits in well into the scenic atmosphere.
Paul Currie is the MD and founder of this establishment and has family ties with the Arran distillery in Scotland who is known to produce whisky. They have got the experts to do the whisky distilling and are familiar with making gin as well. Lakes is a smooth gin and uses local botanicals such as bilberry, heather and meadowsweet. The gin is local as one can find as the Juniper added is sourced from the adjoining fells and the water is sourced from River Derwent.
The tourists that flock into Lake District are eager to take home a souvenir and the Lakes is one of their first preferences. This would create an awareness and impression of the distillery amongst the public.
It is a hit with almost everyone and can raise its head proudly without any fear in any audience. Try serving it 50:50 with your favourite tonic and it has got plenty of weight and is distinct from its taste at 43.7%
